GROUTING MATERIAL FOR PUMPS
|
Vibration is a key factor in the maintenance of pumps and other rotating equipment. Epoxy grouts
offer chemical resistance that far exceed concrete, but the majority of the refinery's and chemical
plants use a 2" epoxy grout on their foundations for vibration dampening.
Epoxy grouting of pump baseplates provides a chemically resistant pump pad that dampens
vibration eight times that of concrete, thirty times that of steel and in turn reduces alignment problems
and premature failure.
While epoxy grouting is not required or needed for all pumps, and rotating equipment it does offer
several advantages to concrete. Properly installed, an epoxy grout will bond to a concrete
foundation and to a pump baseplate with tensile and shear strengths that are much higher than
concrete, effectively transforming the bonded baseplate to a monolithic structure which includes the
foundation. The single-block monolith dampens vibration produced by the pump.
Effective dampening reduces pump-shaft vibrations caused by resonance. It also helps to absorb
shock loads and reduce startup vibrations. The end result is a significant increase in the mead time
between failures, reduced maintenance expenses, and longer life for mechanical seals and bearings.
Escoweld 7505E/7530 Epoxy Grout
The Escoweld material is a user friendly epoxy grout with a working life of 2 hours, which provides
continuous pour applications up from 2" to 18" plus in depth, 24 hour cure, and requires only a
water washable cleanup. It is used for machinery foundations, pipe supports, trenches, pump pads,
and tank foundations.
Escoweld provides a chemically resistant pump pad that dampens vibration eight times that of
concrete, thirty times that of steel and in turn reduces alignment problems and premature failure of
bearings, mechanical seals and couplings of pumps. (Escoweld)
No. 54 Structural Grade
A potassium silicate castable refractory resistant to most acids including 40% nitric, 37%
hydrochloric, and 98% sulfuric acid. It also has temperature resistance up to 1,400oF. It is a
chemically resistant grout used for walls, floors, bases, and sumps. (Sauereisen)
Vinyl Ester Polymer Concrete No. 410
Is a vinyl ester castable system for chemical resistance of sumps, dikes, trenches, walls, and pump
bases. It is general used where the chemical resistance of epoxies cannot withstand the solutions.
